WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28) will vote for Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) to be Speaker of the House of Representative. As the only career firefighter paramedic in Congress, Rep. Gimenez is proud to vote and serve with Rep. Mike Johnson, who is the son of firefighters.

“It’s been 22 days since the Gang of 8 joined with all the Democrats in the House to remove our duly elected Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Their irresponsible and shortsighted actions plunged our Congress and our country into chaos,” said Rep. Giménez. “As Republicans we have come together, after several rounds of voting, to elect Representative Mike Johnson of Shreveport Louisiana as our Speaker Designee. I fully intend to support and vote for him on the Floor. Mike is honorable, he’s the son of a firefighter, and a straightforward leader who can unite our Republican Conference. I look forward to working closely with Speaker Johnson to deliver results for the people of South Florida.”

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and the beautiful Florida Keys. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
