WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez (FL-28) alongside Representatives Mike Waltz (FL-06), Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27), Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-26) met with President-elect Edmundo Gonzalez of Venezuela.
On July 28, 2024, Edmundo Gonzalez defeated Dictator Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela's national presidential elections by an overwhelming majority. The United States stands with the people of Venezuela in their fight for freedom against the Maduro regime and stands with Edmundo Gonzalez as the true President-elect, whose term begins January 10, 2025.
“Honored to welcome President-Elect Edmundo Gonzalez of Venezuela to the United States Congress,” said Congressman Carlos Gimenez. “The United States must stand with the people of Venezuela in their struggle for freedom and put all options on the table as President-Elect Gonzalez assumes office on his Inauguration Day January 10th. The Maduro regime lost at the ballot box and I’m confident President Trump, the best ally the Venezuelan people ever had, will hold thug Nicolas Maduro accountable by applying the pressure necessary to force his ouster and make Venezuela Great Again."
