WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) announced today his office is now accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding Requests. Community Project funding is Congressionally directed grants that are included in annual appropriations (government funding) legislation. Last year, Congressman Gimenez secured over $23.7 million in critical funding for South Florida.

One of the most important functions in my role as a Member of Congress is ensuring that Florida’s 28th Congressional District gets the funding it needs to support critical infrastructure projects and the work of our community’s non-profit organizations,” Gimenez said.

Please carefully review the attached guidance before submitting an application. Please direct any questions to the office.

Please note:

  • Congressman Gimenez can only submit 15 Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee.
         - Note: The Appropriations Committee has the final say in whether a CPF request is included in FY24 appropriations bills; as such, selection by our office does not guarantee a project will be funded. Furthermore, funding is subject to the passage of an appropriations law that contains CPFs. Project sponsors should be aware that selection by Congressman Gimenez is the first step in a months-long process.
  • Community Project Funding requests must meet the criteria for funding established by the House Appropriations Committee. A list of eligible purposes (aka “accounts”) is included in the attached guidance. Any applications for Community Projects Funding requests that are not eligible for one of these accounts will NOT be accepted.
  • Each project is subject to strict legal and ethical review. Projects that contain even the appearance of impropriety will not be accepted. In the interest of transparency, Congressman Gimenez will publicly post information online about on any projects he selects to submit to the House Appropriations Committee.  The posting will include the name of the proposed recipient, the address, the amount of the request, and an explanation of the purpose and justification for the use of taxpayer funds.
  • Any required matching funds must be available for each project. (Note: This does not mean that matching funds must be in-hand prior to requesting a project, but that project sponsors must have a plan to meet such requirements in order for such a project to be viable.)
  • Only the following entities may apply for Community Project Funding:
         -       State, local, and tribal governments
         -       Publicly owned entities (e.g. ports, universities, PUDs, etc.)
         -       Certain non-profit entities with a quasi-governmental purpose (e.g. Special Districts)
         -       Certain Non-profit organizations
  • Community engagement and support is crucial in determining which projects are worthy of Federal funding. Only projects with demonstrated community support will be considered. Examples of these include, but are not limited to:
         -   Letters of support from elected community leaders (e.g. mayors or other officials);
         -   Press articles highlighting the need for the requested Community Project Funding;
         -   Support from newspaper editorial boards;
         -    Projects listed on State intended use plans, community development plans, or other           publicly available planning documents; or
         -    Resolutions passed by city councils or boards.

    You may submit applications via the linked forms. Please note they are specific to the subcommittee jurisdiction. Applications are due March 17, 2023.
