WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez questioned witnesses in a full Homeland Security Committee hearing entitled Havoc in the Heartland: How Secretary Mayorkas’ Failed Leadership has Impacted the States to examine Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas severe and continued dereliction of duty. Secretary Mayorkas’ refusal to enforce our laws at our southern border has undone any semblance of order and compromised the security of our nation.
This hearing is the result of a thorough and comprehensive investigation by the Homeland Security Committee into Secretary Mayorkas’ failed leadership and the national security and humanitarian crisis he created at our southern border. Read the interim reports on Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty, unprecedented cartel control of the Southwest border, the human and financial costs of the crisis, and the waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
“Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is a colossal and abject failure. His refusal to uphold his oath of office to protect our homeland has created a crisis of historic proportions at our southern border,” said Rep. Gimenez. “His reckless policies have endangered our border patrol agents, jeopardized the safety of migrants, and compromised the security of our nation. This severe and continued dereliction of duty demands accountability. This is why, after a thorough investigation into the causes, costs, and consequences of this crisis, the Homeland Security Committee has officially opened impeachment proceedings into Secretary Mayorkas.”
