WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez, ahead of the anniversary of the July 11 protests, is launching a poster campaign demanding the liberation of all Cuba’s political prisoners. This July 11, 2023, marks the two-year anniversary of the July 11, 2021, Cuban Protests. The J11 movement was a series of protests throughout the island of Cuba, captivating the world’s attention, against the brutal, murderous Castro Regime and the Communist Party of Cuba. The regime responded with extreme brutality, arresting thousands of innocent Cubans and sentencing them in show trial in the regime’s politicized kangaroo courts. The Cuban people fought in 2021, and still fight, for freedom and liberty.

“On July 11, 2021, thousands took to the streets in Cuba demanding the end of the brutal Communist regime that oppresses them,” said Rep. Carlos Giménez“Freedom fighters, like Daniel Ferrer, have been imprisoned ever since for speaking out against the Castro Regime. The United States has the moral responsibility to call out the continued human rights violations and demand the liberation of all political prisoners. I urge my colleagues to join me in demanding the immediate liberation of all the political prisoners in Cuba.”

Cuban opposition leader Jose Daniel Ferrer was arrested on July 11, 2021, as he joined the citizen-driven protests against the Castro Regime. The regime had unlawfully charged Ferrer in 2020 with assault and sentenced him. However, the Castro Regime shipped him to a prison camp on July 11, 2021, due to his attempt to join the J11 protest movement. Since his arrest, Ferrer’s family has been unable to speak or hear from him. This change in sentence is a clear political move directed by the top officials of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and Raul Castro. The regime has unlawfully sentenced Ferrer and over 1,000 other individuals because of their participation in the J11 movement.

Our nation's Cuban American Community, over 3 million people strong, implores the use and display of the Daniel Ferrer poster to commemorate the second anniversary of the J11 movement for the freedom and liberty of Cuba.
