Washington, D.C.- Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez has introduced the Prohibiting Student Loan Forgiveness for Antisemites Act. The bill would prohibit students who are convicted of a hate crime under state or federal law at an institution of higher learning from being eligible for loan forgiveness. In the past year, there has been a growth in hate on college campuses. Violence directed towards Jewish students continues to exponentially increase. The violence the nation witnessed during the 2023-2024 school year on college campuses shocked the nation. Those responsible for committing hate crimes towards any group must be held accountable
On the day that Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, is set to address a joint session of congress, it is critical that the congress reaffirms that any type of antisemitism is not acceptable in the United States.
“We must not allow antisemites to benefit from their hate,” said Congressman Carlos Gimenez. “With this bill, we ensure that those that are convicted of a state or federal hate crime will not receive loan forgiveness benefits. Hate has no place in our nation, therefore we must and will continue to stand with the U.S. and international Jewish community.”
