WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos Giménez applauds the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to fully fund our military through Fiscal Year 2024. As the Member of Congress for America’s southernmost district, which includes Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, Congressman Giménez represents thousands of service members and their families and multiple military facilities, including Homestead Air Reserve Base (HARB), Naval Air Station Key West, Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH), and the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-SOUTH).

“As the only Member from South Florida serving on the Armed Services Committee I’m proud of this year's NDAA that protects the security of our community from the growing threats posed by Communist China in our hemisphere,” said Congressman Carlos Gimenez. “I lost my native homeland to a brutal socialist dictatorship and we must do everything in our reach to strengthen the United States and protect our freedom at home and abroad.”

Congressman Carlos Giménez fought to preserve Homestead Air Reserve Base (HARB) and prevent joint use, secured over $240 million to reduce out-of-pocket housing expenses for service members, supported a 5.2% increase in pay, the largest in 20 years, strengthen ties with Taiwan and other allies in the Indo-Pacific, contains the insipid spread of communism in our hemisphere, and ensures the brave men and women who defend our freedom have the proper support and the United States stays resolute in our dedication to safeguard liberty and preserve peace.

Congressman Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28) serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Select Committee on China, and the Armed Services Committee. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, having fled his native homeland shortly after the communist takeover. Rep. Giménez’s district includes Miami-Dade and the entirety of the Florida Keys.
