Dear Friends,

As Florida just endured yet another direct hit from a major hurricane, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have responded to this crisis. Just a week after Hurricane Helene made landfall on Florida's west coast, Hurricane Milton followed, bringing more devastation. The rapid and coordinated response after both storms highlights the resilience and unity of our Florida community, as we come together to support one another in times of hardship.

Thanks to the preparedness of federal, state, and local authorities, we have already begun the task of cleanup and rebuilding in the affected communities. Along our coast, we saw unprecedented storm surges and a record-breaking number of tornado watches, leaving millions without power, thousands displaced, and many still unaccounted for. Yet, in the face of such a challenge, Floridians have once again demonstrated their strength.

From the hundreds of linemen who quickly took to the streets to restore power, to the search and rescue teams that arrived from across the nation, your tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed. The people of Florida are deeply grateful for your service, bravery, and dedication.

As we continue to rebuild, it's important to remember that hurricane season is far from over. I urge all residents, especially those who are new to our state, to stay prepared. Make sure you have a plan in place and stay informed by following guidance from local authorities and weather reports.

Sincerely,

Your Congressman,
Carlos A. Gimenez

Congressman Carlos Gimenz Urges for a Major Disaster Declaration

Alongside the entire Florida Congressional Delegation, we wrote to President Biden in support of Florida Governor Ron Desantis’ request for an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration as a result of Hurricane Milton. Such a declaration would provide the state with essential federal resources that will help state and local authorities to respond and recover since the storm's landfall.
