WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) proudly announced he secured more than $33 million in funding to benefit the constituents of Florida’s 28th District!
“Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys sent me to Washington to fight for their interests, and that is exactly what I am doing,” said Rep. Gimenez. “I am proud to announce I have secured over $33 million in funding for Florida’s 28th District. These projects will create high-quality jobs, strengthen our critical infrastructure, improve water systems, tackle pollution, and expand affordable and workforce housing units.”
FL-28 community funding projects in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 include:
- $2 million to Key West International Airport: This funding will be used to expand and modernize the pre-security public waiting area, passenger ticketing lobby, and outbound baggage security space to increase capacity and efficiency.
- $5 million to the State of Florida for Roadway Improvements to SW 157 Avenue Project: This funding will be used to widen the existing SW 157 Avenue roadway from two to four lanes from SW 42 Street to SW 8 Street. Also includes new raised medians, sidewalks, curb and gutters, pavement marking and signage, intersection and signalization improvements, roadway lighting and a stormwater drainage system.
- $3 million to the State of Florida for Card Sound Road Improvement project: This funding will be used to provide much needed safety features to a roadway which serves as one of two connections between Miami-Dade County and Key Largo.
- $1 million to the State of Florida for the Roadway Resurfacing along SW 152 Avenue Project: This funding will be used for milling and resurfacing segments of SW 152 Avenue, from SW 8 street to SW 42 street.
- $2 million for Florida International University (FIU) for Center for Incubation, Acceleration, and Manufacturing of Engineering and Technologies Project: This center will support the innovation and workforce development needs of South Florida’s burgeoning advanced manufacturing industry.
- $3 million to The Agape Network for Agape Village Wings Project: This funding will be used to develop affordable and workforce housing units that will provide residents, including those earning under the federal poverty line, the opportunity to live and work in Miami-Dade County.
- $3.5 million to the City of Homestead for Pump Station 22 Upgrades Project: This funding will be used to upgrade the pump station22 in the City of Homestead, allowing the city to continue to grow and develop.
- $3.5 million to the City of Homestead for SW 162nd Ave Roadway and Bridge Expansion Project: This funding will be used for the expansion of SW 162nd Avenue from SW 312th Street to W 328th Street from two lanes to four and improvements to the sidewalk, curb and gutter, and bicycle path, continuous storm drainage system, guardrail, signalization, pavement markings and signing, decorative street lighting, and bridge expansion.
- $1 million to Kristi House for Kristi House GOLD Project: This funding will be used for the acquisition of property located in a Miami neighborhood directly across the street from Krisi House’s current property, which is one of the only programs operating as a drop-in center for women that are victims of sex trafficking.
- $6 million for the Army Corps of Engineers Construction for the Florida Keys Water Quality Improvement: This funding will be used to improve water quality in the Florida Keys.
- $1.75 million for the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority for Critical Water Supply Repairs and Construction Projects: This funding will be used to replace an aging transmission line at Windley Key, a critical need to continue to provide safe potable water to ensure the water supply to the Florida Keys is not compromised.
- $1 million for Miami for the Seaport Stormwater Management Master Plan Project: This funding will be used to develop a port-wide stormwater master plan for PortMiami.
- $593,600 for Miami for the Water Pollution Prevention Project: This funding will be used to prevent pollution from Goulds canal to L-31E canal and the area of the CERP Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands’ S-705 pump station by backfilling a section of Goulds canal from L-31E Canal to the eastern end of Goulds canal.
