Washington, D.C.- Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez chaired the House Homeland Security Committee to examine the U.S. Coast Guard’s role in securing the homeland. Rep. Gimenez questioned Admiral Linda L. Fagan, Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard.

Rep. Gimenez discussed the U.S. Coast Guard cutter which is supposed to be in the water today but has yet to be finally designed. These years of setbacks result in a serious issue of national security and the committee demands real answers as to the reasons for these delays. Further, Rep. Gimenez examined the recruitment process and the bleeding of enlisted members of the U.S. Coast Guard. Currently, the U.S. Coast Guard is losing more service members then are coming in.
