WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on the third anniversary of the July 11, 2021, pro-democracy protests in Cuba, Congressman A. Gimenez continues his fight for the Cuban people. Rep. Gimenez was joined by Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), and Rob Menendez (D-NJ) to demand the freedom of over 1,000 Cuban political prisoners arrested by the brutal Castro dictatorship for demanding freedom the murderous regime.

The J11 movement is a series of peaceful protests throughout the island of Cuba, captivating the world’s attention, against the brutal, murderous Castro Regime and the Communist Party of Cuba. The regime has responded with extreme brutality. Thousands of innocent Cubans were arrested that day and three years later thousands are still imprisoned without being able to contact their family. The Cuban people fought in 2021, and continue to fight every day, for freedom and liberty.

As the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, Congress Giménez understands firsthand the devastating effects of communism and the importance of fighting to preserve freedom and liberty. As a small child, he was forced to flee his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island.

“On the anniversary of the July 11 Movement, the people of Cuba rose up spontaneously, throughout the island, to demand one thing - Libertad. Freedom,” said Rep. Gimenez. “The United States must be the champion of freedom in our hemisphere. We can not tolerate communism, or any type of dictatorship, in our hemisphere. The United States has the moral responsibility to call out the continued human rights violations and demand the liberation of all political prisoners.”
