MIAMI, FL - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez welcomed Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer as he arrived in the United States under forced exile imposed by the Communist Cuban Regime.

“José Daniel Ferrer is a fearless champion for freedom and liberty who endured years of torture and imprisonment at the hands of the Castro regime. Today, the dictatorship has failed to silence him and the entire Cuban exile community,” said Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez. “From Miami, the United States welcomes him as a hero. I thank President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their steadfast efforts to secure his release and ensure his saftey.”

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and the beautiful Florida Keys. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 119th Congress, having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. He is the first career firefighter-paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and served as the former Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Rep. Gimenez serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Armed Services Committee, and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
