WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez was appointed to the House Homeland Security Committee’s Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States.

Chaired by Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), the task force is charged with overseeing federal security preparations for several major international events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026.

With oversight of key Department of Homeland Security agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, FEMA, and TSA, the task force will conduct site visits, hold hearings, and support the implementation of President Trump’s FIFA Security Task Force.

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and the beautiful Florida Keys. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 119th Congress, having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. He is the first career firefighter-paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and served as the former Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Rep.
