MIAMI, FL — Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) issued the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump’s executive order: “Addressing Threats to the United States by the Government of Cuba.”

Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez said, "President Donald J. Trump’s executive order imposing tariffs on all countries that send oil to the Cuban dictatorship is a decisive and historic step towards ending the Castro regime once and for all. This decisive action strikes at the heart of the Communist regime’s survival and sends a clear message: the United States will no longer tolerate foreign governments propping up tyranny in our hemisphere.

"Following today’s press conference, I again call for the immediate end of oil shipments, travel, and remittances that bankroll repression and suffering in Cuba. Every dollar and every barrel sent to Havana only prolongs the misery of the Cuban people and strengthens a failed communist state.

"I am proud to work alongside President Donald J. Trump and his administration to hold the Cuban regime accountable and to ensure that America stands firmly on the side of freedom. I thank President Trump for his leadership and for taking bold action that brings us closer to a free and democratic Cuba."
