MIAMI, FL — Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) released the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump’s remarks regarding oil shipments and financial support flowing to the Communist Cuban regime:

Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez said, “Thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for your unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom in our hemisphere. First, he confronted the narco-terrorist dictatorship in Venezuela, and now he is standing firm for the land where I was born, Cuba. Our Cuban American community stood with President Trump, and President Trump stands with us, and for that we will be forever grateful.

"Let me be clear: this hemisphere must be the hemisphere of freedom and democracy. The days of Communist dictatorships terrorizing their people and threatening our security are numbered, and the dictatorship in Cuba has been warned.

"To the leaders of the Castro regime, my advice is simple: do not make the same mistake Nicolás Maduro made, there is still time to leave. Do not test the resolve of the United States. With President Trump’s leadership, we will help the Cuban people reclaim their freedom, rebuild their homeland, and take back their beautiful island from the communist narcoterrorist thugs who destroyed it.”

Primero, enfrentó a la dictadura narcoterrorista en Venezuela, y ahora se mantiene firme por la tierra donde nací, Cuba. Nuestra comunidad Cubano Americana estuvo con el Presidente Trump, y el Presidente Trump está con nosotros; por eso le estaremos eternamente agradecidos.

"Que no quede duda: este hemisferio debe ser el hemisferio de la libertad y la democracia. Los días de las dictaduras comunistas que aterrorizan a sus pueblos y amenazan nuestra seguridad están contados, y la dictadura en Cuba ha sido advertida.

"A los líderes del régimen Castrista, mi consejo es simple: no cometan el mismo error que cometió Nicolás Maduro. Todavía están a tiempo de irse. No pongan a prueba la determinación de los Estados Unidos. Con el liderazgo del Presidente Trump, ayudaremos al pueblo Cubano a recuperar su libertad, reconstruir su patria y recuperar su hermosa isla de las manos de los matones narcoterroristas comunistas que la destruyeron.”
