Dear Friends, 

As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security which oversees the U.S. Secret Service, I am demanding answers after the security failure at President Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The House committee is going to fully investigate the assassination attempt of the former president and find out who is responsible for this almost fatal security failure. 

My committee colleagues and I have already gotten to work. We continue to receive briefings and demand answers on the assassination attempt of President Trump. Further, I joined a bipartisan delegation to survey the site of President Trump’s rally in Butler, PA. The Homeland Security Committee delegation went to investigate the incident on the ground. On my visit, I was able to get onto the roof where the would-be assassin took his shot at President Trump. I’m a 70 year old man, if I was able to get on this roof - anybody can.

The committee will continue to demand answers from the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the U.S. Secret Service as the Homeland Security Committee holds a full committee hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23, 2024. 

As a SWAT firefighter paramedic, I understand these situations first hand. The security breaches that took place at the President's rally are inexcusable and we must hold those complicit accountable. Political violence has no place in America and we can not tolerate it. Being forced out of my native Cuba after the bloody revolution, I understand how political violence destroys countries. 

The United States must come together, politics aside. We are one community, one family. We can not let violence become acceptable.

Congressman Carlos Gimenez Introduces Legislation to Assess Cuba’s threat to U.S. National Security

I introduced H.R. 9066 - Cuba Threat Assessment Act. This bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to make an assessment on the threat that Communist Cuba poses to the United States. 

Only 90 miles away from our shores, Castro’s dictatorial regime continues to threaten our national security. It is critical that the U.S. government makes an assessment of the threat they pose to our community. Further, the Biden-Harris Administration must take the threat the murderous Castro regime poses seriously. With Communist China building up spy bases and Putin’s Russia sending nuclear warships to the island, we cannot let our adversaries grow their presence in the region.

Congressman Carlos Gimenez Visits Butler, PA

Today, I visited the site of the July 13, 2024, tragic and failed assassination attempt of the 45th President, Donald Trump. I spoke to you, the American people, through a video live from the rooftop where the would-be assassin tried to shoot President Trump. I am a 70-year-old man and climbed the same roof the Secret Service said was too dangerous for their agents to climb. This roof is not a big deal. For someone to tell me that Secret Service Agents could not have been here is crazy.

This egregious security breach is unacceptable and those complicit in allowing this failure must be held accountable. Therefore, I am calling for the Director of the U.S. Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, to resign from her position immediately. She has proven to be unable to lead the agency and ensure the safety of those they are sworn to protect, like President Trump.

Congressman Carlos Gimenez Calls on President Joe Biden to Resign

If Joe Biden isn't capable enough to seek re-election, he's not capable enough to remain serving as our President. President Biden does not have the capacity to be the President of the United States. Our enemies are seeing this, and it puts America at risk. America is less safe than ever before because Biden has proven to be a weak leader. For the good of the country, Joe Biden should step down and resign.

Team Gimenez Meets with FIU Student Leaders

My team met with Florida International University Student Government Association leaders. They discussed how we can continue to support FIU’s research initiatives. 

Team Gimenez Tours the U.S. Coast Guard Facilites in Miami

Team Gimenez met with the United States Coast Guard in Miami, FL, at their command base. Members of my team got an overview of the base and their mission. The Coast Guard briefed our team on their save and rescue policy as well as migrant and drug interdiction procedures. Further, our team met with members of the Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Richard Etheridge to discuss their day-to-day lives.
