WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28), the Representative of the Florida Keys, applauded the decision to reject a proposal to consolidate some of Florida's judicial courts. This proposal would have meant certain court circuits, such as the one in the Florida Keys, would merge with larger neighboring court circuits, like Miami-Dade County's. This would have forced people from the Keys to travel hundreds of miles to downtown Miami for court appearances, testimony, and jury duty.

"This is great news for the Florida Keys and ensures that Monroe County is protected," said Rep. Giménez. "Law enforcement and the courts are, and must remain, local and reflect the values of the community. Thank you to all community members and stakeholders that came together to express opposition to this proposal."

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents the beautiful Florida Keys. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
