WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging the Trump Administration to take action against the human trafficking of Cuban doctors.

For years, the Cuban dictatorship has engaged in modern-day slavery by forcing Cuban doctors and healthcare workers to work abroad against their will. These workers endure exploitative conditions while the Cuban regime profits. Congressman Gimenez urges the Trump Administration to implement additional financial sanctions and tariffs on countries that are complicit in the Cuban regime’s practices of slavery.

The murderous dictatorship in Havana sells Cuban doctors and medical professionals like cattle to countries across the globe, in the most perverse modern-day slavery scheme facing our hemisphere,” said Congressman Carlos Gimenez. “I fully support President Trump’s economic proposals and tariff plan. It’s why I’m proud to request the imposition of tariffs and economic sanctions on all countries engaging in the slave trade of Cuban doctors. The Cuban dictatorship continues to profit billions of dollars per year off of selling their medical professionals and forcing them to work in the most deplorable, inhumane conditions. I look forward to continue working together with the Trump Administration to combat the regime in Cuba and cut off all of their income sources weaponized to repress the Cuban people and keep their pathetic stranglehold on power. Patria Y Vida.”
